- General Information
- Beds: 15 bed Pediatric Unit; 5 Bed PICU
- Experience required: 1.5 years general nursing experience (system requirement)
- Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, only if greater than 2 years of experience (system requirement)
- Patient Types:
- Will work through both Gen Peds and PICU
- Pediatrics: Patients 0-18 years of age and adult overflow (stable medical – s/p appendectomy, s/p cholecystectomy, cellulitis, etc.). The diagnosis of these patients varies from respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries. The general surgeries may include ear/nose/throat, gastrointestinal, urological, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and trauma.
- Advanced Care Pediatrics: Patients 0-18 years of age requiring critical or intensive care services. The most common disease entities you may care for in our Advanced Care Pediatrics Unit include but are not limited to:?acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious diseases leading to major organ system dysfunction, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic diseases, toxic ingestions/exposures, trauma, hematologic and oncologic disease.

- Required Certifications:
- RN: BLS, PALS, NIHSS
- NRP is not required
- RN: BLS, PALS, NIHSS
- Required Education:
- Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
- Skills required:
- Physical assessment of patients, ages 0 – Adult
- Evaluate patient symptoms and associated vital signs
- Administer medications as prescribed
- Educate patients and families on plan of care
- Proficient use of EPIC charting system
- PICU experience – ability to titrate drips and care for the mechanically ventilated patient.
- Support on the Unit:
- CNA (Ratio: 1:5)
- Charge nurse: 1 charge nurse covers both units – free floating
- Phlebotomy? RNs and Nurse Aids draw their own labs
- IV/VAT Team? RNs start their own IVs and have Ultrasound available for difficult IVs.
- Resource Nurse: Nurse Clinician/Nurse Educator
- Case Management and Social Work
- RT: Yes
- Hospitalist: Yes, with Pediatric APP support
- Additional Support: Pediatric Pharmacy, Pediatric Social Work and Case Management
- Charting System/Equipment:
- EPIC
- Omnicell
- Floating: If yes, where?
- NICU – 30 bed – feeder/growers – 1:3 ratios
- Orientation: (facility and unit)
- 1 day facility orientation to include online and in person training
- 2 days unit orientation with preceptor
- Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: Every other
- Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? May be placed on low census/on call
- Holiday Expectations: All
