Job description

Senior Medical Science Liaison – Midwest Territory

About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading biopharmaceutical organization focused on developing and commercializing innovative therapies for patients living with neurological and psychiatric disorders. With a strong commercial presence and a robust clinical pipeline, the company is committed to advancing science through meaningful partnerships with healthcare professionals, researchers, and key opinion leaders.

They are seeking an experienced Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join their Medical Affairs team and support a large Midwest territory. This field-based role will serve as a scientific expert, fostering peer-to-peer relationships with healthcare providers and thought leaders while delivering impactful scientific exchange across psychiatry and neuroscience.

Position Overview

The Senior Medical Science Liaison will build and maintain scientific relationships with key opinion leaders, academic institutions, healthcare systems, and other influential stakeholders. This individual will serve as a trusted medical resource, gathering field insights, supporting research initiatives, communicating clinical data, and helping shape broader medical affairs strategy.

Success in this role requires a combination of scientific expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to develop meaningful relationships with external experts. The ideal candidate is an experienced field medical professional who enjoys scientific exchange and is committed to a long-term career within Medical Affairs.
Territory

This position supports Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Candidates must reside within the territory, with Kansas City, St. Louis, and Minneapolis viewed as ideal locations. Proximity to a major airport is strongly preferred. Travel is expected to be approximately 50-60% and will be concentrated primarily in Missouri, with additional activity throughout Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage regularly with KOLs and healthcare decision makers to provide balanced, clinically meaningful scientific information and facilitate peer-to-peer discussions.
  • Support company-sponsored and investigator-initiated research, represent the organization at scientific congresses and professional meetings, and provide medical education to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Gathering and communicating field insights, evaluating emerging scientific data, supporting speaker bureau initiatives, interpreting clinical and health economics information, and serving as a strategic resource to the broader Medical Affairs organization.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a doctoral-level degree, such as a PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent scientific credential.
  • 4 years of Medical Science Liaison experience and a proven track record of success in a field-based role.
  • Experience within psychiatry, neuroscience, or related therapeutic areas is highly desirable.
  • Individuals with established psychiatry KOL relationships, strong scientific presentation skills, and experience managing large geographic territories will be especially competitive.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • The strongest candidates will bring a combination of deep scientific acumen and strong external engagement experience.
  • They should be recognized as credible scientific partners by healthcare professionals and have demonstrated success gaining access to difficult-to-reach KOLs.
  • Established psychiatry relationships and view Medical Affairs as a long-term career path. Applicants who are pursuing the role solely as a stepping stone to Medical Director or other leadership positions may be less competitive.
  • The team is seeking professionals who are passionate about field engagement, scientific exchange, and long-term impact within neuroscience and psychiatry.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role offers the opportunity to join a highly respected Medical Affairs organization supporting innovative neuroscience therapies and a growing clinical pipeline. The position provides significant visibility with leading psychiatric and neurological experts across the region, meaningful influence on scientific strategy and insight generation, and the ability to make a direct impact on patient care through scientific engagement.

The organization offers a competitive compensation package that includes base salary, annual incentive opportunity, long-term equity participation, comprehensive healthcare benefits, retirement savings programs, and ongoing professional development support.
